Pines for the sub tropics?

I'm wondering what are some of the better pinus species fro growing in south east qld? I have 3 slash pines but they have quite long needles. I was wondering if there are any shorter needled species that will do well here, JBP's or JRP's?

jbp can survive. just more care on them.

Definitely JBP. They do great here. JRP do good also but are harder to find.

Radiata also does very well here, but are also harder to find up here.

Get yourself a JBP as nice and as old as you can afford, and also a couple of seedlings, and start the journey.

Cheers mate. I must have a look locally, there is an experimental pine plantation with a number of different species, just up at beerwah. Might be a good idea to grab something from there if they have anything interesting and more bonsai suited. Will also look into JBP's. The bonsai nursery down the road stocks them, will see what they are worth
