PINUS MUGO SHOHIN 1

Up until yesterday this was a cascade. Some history here viewtopic.php?f=131&t=508&hilit=three+mugos&start=15 After spending the day at the growing fields i came home inspired and got stuck into it. By 1am this is what was produced. This was the back of the tree and now sits at 15cm. Come christmas i will repot it into a more suitable pot for its new guise.

Mate in past experiences if you are not repotting, a hard cut around easter produces terrific back budding for spring.

Friday bare rooted, hacked away 75 % of roots did not touch the top !!! and repotted inot shohin pot . The rest to follow 2moro...

Geez Antonio Not much left there mate.

We did that to Pines up here they would be as good as dead. We can't even grow Mugo for long though.

But gosh, I never knew you could repot Mugo's at this time of year, let alone root-prune them like you did.

These guys are fairly quick to tell you if not happy, the colour of the new growth is looking very good and i am very confident the tree is going to be fine and continue powering on. This time of the year is the best for Mugo if the top of the tree has been and will be left alone for a condsiderable time 6-12 months and is strong...

And thanks for your reply. I have always repotted my Mugo about Oct. - early Nov., with good results. Just out of curiosity I checked what Harry Harrington (Bonsai4me) had to say and he recommends Summer repotting. An English Summer wouldn't be all that different from our late Spring, I guess. Thanks Lisa Vance Woods is where i learnt about this. He styles and repots in the summer Specifically mid june for him. Mid Dec for us. He does not bare root though. I have and confidently because i have not cut any thing off the top or styled in the same sitting.
