Orange/Pink Bougainvillea Progression

Post by AGarcia »

Hello,

I thought I would show my Latest Bougie with flowers, but provide a little history first. The tree was collected from my neighbour in early 2008

August 2008. This tree was in the too-hard basket for a while, but i liked the flower colours. I tried to sell it out our 2010 local show, but no one was interested.

October 2011 at the Bill Valavanis workshop. He didn't know what to do with it and not much was done at the time.

October 2011 after carving out some stumps and reducing the heaviness of the top. It is hard to see the wood as i have painted it with wound sealant.

Side shot. The back portion was separated to make it more a branch as opposed to part of the main trunk line.

December 2011. The tree grew well and I wired down the new growth.

Top view showing branch spread. Since the growth was young it was still flexible enough to bend into place.

March 2012 just before repotting. Growth had been well and I pinched the tips of the longer shoots to prevent it getting away from me.

Tree last month in flower. The next step, when the wrmer weather comes, is to cut back the long growth from the flowering and try to get more compact growth.

G'day Albert

Bougy is looking good mate.

Seems like Bill gave you a pretty good start to a busy tree, and now the rewards are coming. Keep it going mate :tu:

It has to start with building structure, and the rest will follow. Gotta get the bones right first.

Couldnt have said it better than Tony, remember you couldnt even sell it yet he managed to find something hiding inside all that mass. The pot is a great match with room for the tree to fill out.

Look forward to watching this one progress.
