Can I keep a JBP alive?

Post by Bebbas »

Hi Everyone,

I need to call on all your experience. I have the oppotunity to aquire an established bonsai Japanese Black Pine.
My dilema is that it will be placed on my balcony which faces East/South/East so it will get morning sun but no afternoon sun.
My question is....will this be enough to keep it alive and thriving or should I just pass on it?

Thanks in advance

Your tree will definitely live on...the placement is important but in my opinion....its more what you do to look after it.

Lets say you do get it and it does die...at least you will have gained a greater love for JBP's, which will in turn inspire you to go out and get another one!!!

I have a JBP which has endured some harsh times and is still standing proud..

Go forward young man and conquer the world 8-)

East/South/East ?? The question is; Is the balcony covered or open? How many hours of sun in the morning will it get ? Both summer and winter? :lost:

Thanks Billa!! You are instilling me with confidence

Cheers for the reply Hackimoto,
OK..... Balcony is covered but it will be right on the edge of the balustrade (so kind of out in the open. not completely under the roof part). At this time of year it will only get a couple of hours of direct sunlight in the morning but this amount increases each day to the height of summer where it will be from 5am through to about 11am. It is very bright for the rest of the day but not direct

Sounds good to me Bebbas.

They do love lots of sun, and only 2 hours at this time of year is not ideal, but it will put up with it with the strength it will get from the summer sun. Keep it fed well so it stays strong

Go for it :tu:

Show us all a pic when you get it
