Metasequoia Glyptostroboides

Post by Rory »

This Metasequoia is 17 years old. I really need to go and buy a can of coke for scale, sorry, but I'll do it for the progression pictures next year. That is a large chair it is resting on, so it gives you an idea of the size.

I originally purchased it as a 2 year old seedling, and have patiently cut it back, grown it, cut it back, grown it etc etc for years and years, and I am happy with the height and trunk. They can grow like crazy if you plant them in a large container, but you end up with complications from that, so I don't recommend it. It was housed at my mothers for a while when I was living in a unit, but now that I have a house, I have taken them back. This needs quite some work for branch positioning once the new buds shoot. Those little buds are looking nice and juicy at the moment. In about 5 - 10 years it will be a great showpiece.

Let me know what you think. Thoughts / commentary welcome.

I style Bonsai naturally, just as they would appear in the wild.
