Ok here's how I got hooked onto the species

Ok so my dad had these huge adeniums and had them since I was a child I am 15 and I just got into the hobby of bonsai through adenium
Here's how it started
Story time
my father said get out and do something so then I spotted the adenium and I never really noticed the big seed pods and I was like dad whats this he said not sure look it up so I did and they were seed pods I knew I was bad at growing plants not being able to keep moss alive so anyways off I went threw them in a pot and then bamb they shooted in four days I was so excited I kept them alive and then I got bored with them so I sold them for 2 dollars each and they all sold in three days 100 dollars profit
so then I went to bonsai and then I kept ficus trees alive and then I started some seeds of adenium 7 months ago because I saw some awesome hybrids.

They make excellent bonsai
Because they give good thick root structure and thick trunks quick grow quick and you don't have to water every day

lol funny you should post this as I was only talking about them the other day

I've got three growing at the moment, that I started from seed I chose them because they just looked so interesting when I saw the pics of them, I then read in the description that they can be bonsai'd which was what piqued my interest in bonsai... and began it all for me!

I have no plans to bonsai them (yet), as I just want them to grow all weird and crazy to see where they end up.

They are very hardy though, I had them sprouting 3-4 days after planting, and they pretty much take care of themselves after that.

Question though, how much should you water them? I've heard they should be treated like succulents and watered weekly, but then I've heard others say treat them as you would a normal plant? I've been watering them every fourth day, and they seem to be doing just fine... but then they were also when I was watering daily lol

My stepfather grows bazillions of them. They've never interested me much, but I would imagine they would make poor bonsai, primarily being very hard to style. I have seen some people attempt to bonsai them, but they didn't have much luck, and they said they were leaving it as more of a feature plant, kind of like trying to bonsai a fern or something. But good luck if you can produce some nice results.

Do a quick Google image search for "adenium bonsai" and you'll see some pretty decent trees. Some ugly ones too, but I think they have potential.

treat them as tomatoes in summer
and as cactus in winter (keep them dry)

Personally, if i could make $100 in three days selling these, I'd open an adenium business on the side and use the profits to buy up huge portions of Ray Nesci's stock trees.

Am actually contemplating chucking all my seeds in the ground and selling them on Gumtree after a year or two... they grow so easily that it'd be easy profit to sponsor my bonsai needs

I've seen a few of them done as bonsai, and actually looked pretty decent. I know they'll only grow as big as the pot they're in, so they are probably well suited

The only reason I got 100 dollars in three days was because I sold at a garden show
I would have gotten a lot more i only sold them for 1 dollar each I think

Waiting to see your pic's mate, also would like to hear a bit more about the hybrids you have managed to come up with.

It was always with great expectations I waited for my first flowers from the last batch of seedings. You are never sure what you are likely to get. Great plants, but I am still in doubt as to if they are Bonsai or not.

The first Desert Rose I grew came from seed pod that was bursting as I crossed the road in China Town, Broome WA, can you believe. Was quite comical running around the roadside collecting seed as it blew around the place (I might add I wasn't the only one) although I did eventually find out where the seed was coming from .

But anyways you'll see where I am going
And I will encourage anyone who wants a challenge and I ask everyone to come forward and show their pictures of their seedling or finished bonsai and even if there not bonsai just post some pics

okay this might wreck ur tree if u do it wrong but this is what i did
