New Fig

I got given this beautiful fig. I don't know what to do with it any ideas or help would be muchly appreciated

I'm guessing for fertilizer you've been using wheat beer, cause that fat little german has the meanest beer belly.

This fig.... is soooo cute. There is something adorable about it. It reminds of a bird with a giant neck and a stumpy fat belly. But seriously... That is a great starter you got there. If it were mine, I'd be treating it like a chicken dinner, and giving it the chop, other than that, I can't think of much more to do other than just a decapitation halfway down the neck and trying to get some thickening starting above the bulge.

You may as well chop it above the first 2 branches - it loses taper after them. You can use the top part as a cutting if you hate waste

Iv been looking at it for the past few hours and I think that's what I'm going to have to do. And yes I won't let the top go to waste

So just cut right about the two lower branches? Do I need to put anything on the wound?
Also has anyone used clonex for there cuttings? I have tried it once and didn't work if anyone has a better product or method to use for the top cutting that would be great

I always use cutpaste or putty on the larger cuts, and would do so on these sized ones.
Yes i would cut flush with the new leader branch and then putty.
I use rooting powder all the time. have used clonex before with good results

If you don't have access to cut paste, PVA glue works well also (the white glue used in woodwork-commonly available at hardware shops and supermarkets)

also add as other substitutes, water based paint, Playdoh, Vaseline.
