Callistemon Unknown

This was purchased from a council nursery for $10.00 in March 2013. It was quite tall (about 140cm), and just looked like a tall Callistemon (without any label). Though on closer inspection of the base of the trunk inside the pot, I was blown away at how much this stood out from the others as bonsai worthy. I had to have it. I initially just cut off about 80cm of the trunk, leaving this behind. I love the bends it has, and should have taken more pics of the sides to show the bends, but will do that in my next update.

It initially shot forth a whole stock of new shoots, but they all died shortly after. I was perplexed, as I didn't overwater or underwater, so I just waited patiently, and it shot again, this time, holding onto its lush new growth, and has had this growth now for about 2-3 months. I have no idea what type of callistemon it is, but it was so neglected and stunted that I just had to adopt it. It is about 3cm at the base. It was originally a twin trunk at some point, but the 2nd trunk must have been snapped off or died back whilst at the nursery, because it was grouped with a lot of other callistemons that were blocking it from sun.

I style Bonsai naturally, just as they would appear in the wild.

Don't think that it's a Calli, I've never seen one with large, glossy leaves like that :lost: That being said, I'm still 'new'... so might just be one I've not seen before?
