Serissas x 2

Never had much luck with Serissas in the past. Not too sure what I was doing wrong, but inevitably lost them at some stage. They seem to be a little fussy at times.

Anyway, Im really happy with the progress I have made with two varieties I currently have. Im not certain of the particular species of each so perhaps we can start with that? The larger one of the two I scored from a local nursery for peanuts. The smaller one was a $4 starter from Nesci.

I cannot believe how much the larger one has flowered of late. It just doesnt stop. The photo doesnt really do it justice. A couple of weeks ago there were even more, but a few windy days saw a bunch of flowers fly away. I exposed the roots a little too much, there just wasnt much of a trunk and I thought I had lost it there for a while. But its come back nicely. Now I have all these spidery roots I need to attend to.

The smaller one has just kept rocketing up. It has tripled its size in probably a month. But not flowering as hard as the other.

So I guess my questions are:

What can I do for the smaller one to induce more flowering?

When should I perform maintenance on the roots? Some guidelines as to how much to remove?

Any other pointers or ideas welcome.

The flowers drop off if they get wet so i don't mist mine.
I think they like to be moist most of the time but not frequently watered. So if you keep them part shade they should be okay. They tell you if they are being overwater by individual leaves turning yellow and dying off.
Early spring/ spring for root prune i think. This is when i have done mine, a bit of leaf loss but no large branches dying off. I repotted one a few weeks ago and i think it was a bit late as i got a lot of die back. It has survived though.

I try and not let mine dry out. Repot in spring. Liquid fertiliser every 15 days spring-Autumn. 30 days in winter. Mine cops full sun (in SE QLD). I regularly prune and try and get rid of wanted growth on trunks and roots as soon as it appears.

I dont mist my serissas while flowering. I have found they can tolerate a significant amount of light, sometimes all day if the conditions are right. Have the odd yellow leaf here and there, kept moist as often as possible. Might step up the liquid fertilizer regime.
