Landscape tidied up

Post by Josh »

I thought I started this in another post but I can't find it anywhere. I have had this sitting on the bench for quite sometime and decided it needed a clean up. I'll post the progression from the start as I can't find the original post.

So I let it grow for a while then I pruned the trees as they back bud like crazy and throw shoots from the same spot and cause reverse taper. I removed any branches I didn't want and wired the trees.

Well it sat on the bench for probably 10-12 months and last night thought it was about time I cleaned it up.

Very happy with how this has come along so far. Trees are getting some good shape and size now. I will now wire the secondary branches (with 1-1.5mm wire as they are very fine. One thing I find with these is some snap easily when bending, others bend ok.

Hi Bonborn, that was the feel I was going for, kinda like a walk through an English forest.

The moss is looking really good. Gives a real natural feel to it. I look at the moss on the rocks and think of a damp gully somewhere.

Got another one I'm working on but waiting for the trees grow

Hi Bougy, they were label as dwarf Elms when I bought them. That's all I know. They back bud like crazy although they are brittle.

:tu: I think you are right. I have broken a couple (which gave me cuttings  ). I use a combination of wire and clip'n'grow. The trees are starting to really get some shape now, if left alone they tend to grow 1 dead straight trunk and branches everywhere with multiple branches from the same spot.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I have a large rock I'd like to do a large planting on but would need about 10-15 trees mmmmm stay tuned.

Cleaned the landscape up a bit and discovered it was growing toadstools. They give it a real natural feel.
