A stumpy Berberis and lovely Autumn colour.

Post by bodhidharma »

This is an old Berberis i have had for a while and was dug up on my property. Planted by the previous owner in the early Seventies so has a bit of age. Only dug about five years ago and i have been developing it since then. Trying something new with the leader and i have developed three to reduce down to one (of course). I didnt want to lock myself in with the selection and make the mistake of getting it wrong so, something new in the way of developing a tree. Sort of try before you buy. I am starting to opt for the lowest one although the top also has interest. The middle one is out of the running i think. What do you reckon. Beautiful colour and very early.

wow  Very nice bodhi! I love it. Great colours, awesome pot and very beautifully displayed I must say. I love the direction you are taking with it. I don't have much thought on the direction, but I love the look of the bottom branch, and the feel this creates.

I style Bonsai naturally, just as they would appear in the wild.

Firstly, nice pot, is it a Trevor Wheeler creation? And love the aged trunk :tu:

I would tend to head towards full cascade ... but hears some food for thought ...

This is very cool. Great image  . I think I prefer the first possible front, moving from right to left.

Another nice little treat Bodhi.
Cute as a button.

I presume this tree is not that big?

Lovely pot too.
This must be the best half moon thingy I've seen.

P.s. Did you insinuate in another thread that you are stopping the bonsai nursery component of your business?

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Thanks for that t99. it will be a difficult decision as it looks different in 3d.

Hi Boics, the tree fits in the palm of my hand and Trevor had the perfect pot for it. They were meant for each other. in answer to the p.s I am no longer replacing stock as it is inevitable that i will one day close. I turned 63 this year and i have a whole lot of other stuff i want to do. Nobody who is hooked on Bonsai (me) ever gets out but i will keep a hundred or so trees to see if i can get that masterpiece in this lifetime.
