Tree ID and styling advice?

Post by OwnLeeOne »

Hey guys
I collected this tree over 6 months ago. Just wondering If anyone knows what it is? I also just did the first wiring on it. I was thinking about cutting off the taller trunk on the right down to the first branch. Any suggestions comments please?

Cheers. Image

It looks like a native, this is just a guess, one of the small leafed eucalypi' or wattle. Nice bark though. ;)

Very nice material...can it be melaleuka?
You seem to wire the branches but dont bend them...Why?
I am experimenting with few melaleukas by trying to style them like baeckea.

Not having any natives as such, but, I have some callistrums growing in the garden that were at one time going to be large bonsais. They have a similar bark and leaves. I started by cutting( slaughtering) most of the branch back too the trunk, they back budded from the trunk, this might help??? Alias they are still in the ground and are nearly as big as before :palm: ;)

I too think some sort of leptospermum Brian.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

I style Bonsai naturally, just as they would appear in the wild.

I havnt put any bends in yet I just wanted the branches to grow in that direction for now. Will probably do more clip and grow training.
I don't think it's quinquenervia, I didn't see any tall trees most of them were 2 or 3m max.
Thanks for your responses.
