Re: Acacia pravissima spring colour
Exciting tree, good lighting too. The flowering may be less, but it's possible that makes a better balance between the trunks, the foliage and the flowers - does to me anyway.
Are the leaves starting to pop when the flowers are opening? Does that worry you when you repot? How tough are you on the roots? And how old is it? Are they a long-lived species?
Thanks for posting.
Gavin

Hi Peter,
Like the balance mate. Looks very nice. I also would like to know how old.

Re: Acacia pravissima spring colour
After the flowering each year (end of September) I trim back this years foliage to make room for the new foliage and flowers. This year it was due for a re-pot and was unable to remove it successfully so I had to break the pot( only a cheapy). I have potted into another cheap pot for now, until I find a suitable quality Bonsai pot.

Peter

Re: Acacia pravissima spring colour
Hi,
I'm just about to grow one of these from seed (Australian Geographic Bonsai Starter Kit).
I've been advised Australian Wattle generally only lasts about 7 years though. Is that not the case with Bonsai?
p.s. Any hints on starting out?
Thanks,
T.

Re: Acacia pravissima spring colour
Hi T,
I bought this Acacia from a nursery in about 2002. The nursuryman had it as a display plant for about 10 years. I reduced the root ball by two thirds over a 3 year period and it didnt miss a beat. Repotting is now done every 2 to 3 years just after flowering, around October.
I do keep an eye out for borers which has caused the damage you see in the previous picture. Also I had some problems with scale.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Peter

Some wattle have short life spans, others can live over 30 years, so you kind of need to google that yourself for whichever species you are interested in.thomashouseman wrote:Hi,
