Top marks for keeping such a small live vein alive on an Australian Native,

Hmmm,
Eriocephalus africanus is native to South Africa...
After roughly 20 years of growing bonsai, I reckon I might just be starting to get the hang of it...

As we all know photos NEVER do justice to a tree as compared to seeing it in the flesh. As it stands for mine i am impressed by the photo so, in the flesh, it must be stunning. I would never critique the tree on photo alone and would want to see it "up close and personal" before i even ventured a comment.

Wow! The negativity and outright opposition to alternative views and one persons perspective by some people on this forum is amazing.
Someone posts a picture of a tree and claims it is the ''finest bonsai he has seen in Australia'' All fine and well but surley those words are grounds for a closer look. That is his point of view. This is a forum, not an exhibiton. As such we can only look at what is on the screen (small pictures and in 2 dimentions not 3). It may very well be that I would have a different opinion if I saw the tree but that would be the case for EVERY SINGLE TREE EVER POSTED HERE. Why does anyone post a pic? Obviously it is to show others something which we consider worthy of appreciation and comment. Is it expected that only glowing and positive feedback be given without the slightest thought given to an alternative opinion?
It seems quite ok if someone suggests that this juniper or pine should be cut here or there or bent like this or that. But a tree in an exhibition. NO! we need to actually SEE that to make a comment. If the latter was the case, what is the point of an on line forum?

trident76,
Once again the fact that some of us have not seen the tree in real life is irrelevant in this context. Remember this is a forum and we can only comment on what we see in front of us. Or should we say nothing?
What the tree is or who grew it is also irrelevant.
Many of us have had trees selected for the Canberra collection. Some good some not so good. That particular fact (alone) should not deter comment of a posted picture.

Graeme,
How can you ''agree'' or disagree when somone says it's the best tree they have seen in Oz. If that's what they say then obviously that's what they mean.
The question ''Whats the best tree in the world'' is just silly.

Rory,
Thank you for giving a thoughtful opinion!

bodhirama,
You have written your critiques of countless trees on this forum without seeing the real thing. (usually something like ''good job and well done  ) but they are critiques none the less

WOW, A tad touchy there Treeman! You are treating it like it is your post and we are talking about you. You might need to grow up a little and not take things so personally.

Come on Gents, Play nice.

We are here to talk about little trees and deliver our opinions about said trees, not each other.

The irony was not lost on me either. Certainly I have to agree with Treeman on this, in that ... On a forum, we post pictures and critique all the time, which is what we all love (usually). :tu2:

I think Bodhi, he is not at all upset nor angry, it depends on the way you read his post, as emotion cannot be conveyed on text. I am sure there was no malice intended Bodhi, as when one assumes the poster is upset or angry it is thereby easy to misinterpret this because you read the words with presumed emotion. Treeman is simply stating that it is quite appropriate to give critique to a tree which hasn't been seen in person as nearly everyone on this forum has done in the past.

For instance, if it was my tree I would dearly love critique from someone with as much magic to their hands as your experience wields, :worship: and would certainly not consider it a degree of poor form to give critique on a tree which can still be seen for its raw form. After all, we all learn from others' interpretations from what our tree may look like.

Funny. I almost coughed laughing. Older, (much older) folk may not comprehend the humour in that.
