I would use that as an excuse to get more

I say, give it a few years Jarad, and you will understand what Craig is talking about. There is a massive difference between 'starter' stock and a bonsai.Jarad wrote:You will finally have enough time to work on all of your trees so you're culling them?Craigg wrote:This will coincide with retiring so I will have the time to spend on the trees that I have.

I really like the idea of 20 or so trees but you really need a range of pre-bonsai (vegetative shields) to defend your collection from newbies trying to bum your best trees for a gold coin price. There is an overwhelming tendancy for those quickly attracted to bonsai not to comprehend the responsibility/obligation that comes with owning/caring for a bonsai. That said it is very satisfying to help another convert start out.Craigg wrote:That is true, but I look at it from the perspective of their growth stage and the attention that will be needed. Along with advanced years. Culling to just the best that I have will be the aim rather than having lots that I don't pay enough attention to.
