I believe that some strains of rubiginosa fig have brown furry underside of leaves. One of the common names is rusty fig but rubiginosa is so widespread that they are not all the same so not all rubiginosa have it. I believe the only real way to tell the species is looking at the fruits.
Underside of leaves will not definitively show the species.
