Hey Doolz
tools to cut would be just a sharp saw, and then Knob cutter to tidy it up. Apply Cut paste as desired

Re: Japanese Zelkova
I just thought to drag this one out that I did a few weeks back
viewtopic.php?f=96&t=953&hilit=drop+in+ ... &start=270
This came out of the ground. There would be no reason to trim your roots as hard as long as it went into a bigger pot and there was plenty of room for more growth.

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Re: Japanese Zelkova
Ok. I have been away in the country for the last 2 weeks after posting this topic originally. Now coming home to Richmond I have found that my Zelkova is now budding. Is it to late to trim and wire as hard as bretts has suggested? If so and I had to leave trimming the new growth until winter, can I still do the ground layering now that the tree has started to bud/shoot?
Thinking I may have to leave this until next winter!?!??!
Any help/advice appreciated.
