Re: A hillside of twisted mels.
You see alot of native plants on hill tops and coastal zone's with twisted trunks and branches.
The seasons than to have wind power from a different direction in alot of area which form the lovely twisted look.
Most Parks National and State have bushwalking trails you see alot of trees at summits or weather side of range with looks that are to die for.
One of my favorite area's to view the enviroment is down Coastal Parks the extreme Southerly Gales from Antractica use wind and sand to carve the most beautiful patterns into rock and tree's add vermin and water it can be even better.
Lovely photo's again.

Re: A hillside of twisted mels.
I remember when we had Hirotoshi Saitoh here, about 8 years ago we took him to Margaret River, while we were there we also visited Yallingup beach where the surfers go also the White pointers.
He made the remark of the trees and their shapes, if we could replicate them it would be great. If we could collect said some one his reply was why spoil this beautiful tree.
Someone then replied we cant collect them any way, someone mentioned that I had a licence to dig, and my reply was yes, but no they are still there.
Cheers Pup

Re: A hillside of twisted mels.
It takes a lot of years to get a complicated trunk like that with lots of bends, and to get them to look "natural" AND "interesting" is even more difficult. Most of us (me included) give up too early, and have a trunk with a few bends, that's it. Wiring tends not to get the angles, more bends, if you get my drift, so mostly they need to be cut, then grown on at a different angle. It's a 20 year project.

Beautiful!
Crafted beer and naturally crafted bonsai. The Margaret River region is so lovely. Leaves our Hunter Valley for dead if you ask me.

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful
