Re: Tree on display Wattspace Gallery Newcastle

Just to mess with everyone's heads....

It's a dramatic tree, but the bulk of the foliage and the contrast with the jinn jars a bit for me, as with others. I'm wondering whether the branches could all be halved in length - that way there is a much clearer upwards energy. Maybe also fewer branches? A few sparse events on the way up, stretching out into the bare jinn....

Just my 2c. It's good to see trees displayed in a gallery as art.

Thanks for posting.

It takes a lot to upset Hugh. Giving your thoughts on this awesome tree and why you do or don't like it wont upset him.

Saying he looks like a frizzy headed 'wheres wally?'... that might upset him.

It goes without saying that Hugh should be very proud of the work that he does and that is reasonably well reflected in the response that his work garners on here.

Re the constructive criticism above, again, this is testament to his work. Not many of us here have trees of such quality and in such advanced states that are even open to thoughts on final refinement and aesthetics.

Hugh is very obviously a bonsai ARTIST and I thank him for selflessly posting and letting some of us pontificate and dream what it would be like to produce something of equal quality.

Reading that back, I either have a man-crush on Hugh or it is the Tassie Starwood single malt talking - in any event, both of which I recommend.
