Any thoughts or ideas on this fig. Where I have drawn a line I would like to air layer to get a nice base going.

:bump: Can anyone help.
I thought you could trim off the bark down to cambrium, hormone powder and plant back into fresh mix, wait 6 months or more and chop off bottom part. Would this work.

I like gardening - it's a place where I find myself when I need to lose myself.

You could just chop it, dust it and leave it to sprout, but ficus are really satisfying to air-layer; almost guaranteed success! I just layered two Moreton Bay figs and couldn't believe how quickly they struck. If you want to get some practice with the technique, go for it!

My thoughts are:

1. Total saw off and grow as a cutting - likely above 50% success and even more % if you do it right.
2. Airlayer - likely above 80% success and even more % if you do it right.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Thanks guys for your advice. I think air-layering is the way to go. Do you think where I indicated would be the right place.
