Eucalyptus moorei

I bought this tree a few years ago ,it was growing in a 150 mm pot . It was in a pond pot for a couple of years , it was ok but not thickening fast so i put in an old garden sieve . Since then I've been growing then chopping . It is quite blowy here at the moment ( october ) and it was flapping around so I decided to give it its annual chop .

The first chop was with branch cutters ,the other cuts I left a stub and then later jinned. The plan is to keep growing and chopping until the bark starts to mature .

Think the stub / Jin approach is the way to go, going to try this on mine next time around instead of pruning flush with branch cutters

Interesting species, after researching moorei, it appears a perfect Bonsai specimen.

Another gum with a great start sno. I read up on this species too and as stated above it does sound like a good choice of material.

We need a lot more people attempting gums. Great work for the gum fans sno!

Hi Craig . I like the result with stubs over flush too. Even if you don't want Jin I have found it will heal quicker starting with a stub .

Hi Kevin . At the moment this tree is behaving nicely . Every time I chop it sends out a little branch close to the chop which I use for next years leader . It takes the uncertainty out of it ,leaves are quite small too .

Hi BB . I'm a big fan of this species give it room to move it responds well to growing .
I have another one that I started at the same time which is still in a pond pot . It's got better movement but it's still a twig . It's been chopped every year too .time to find a bigger pot me thinks .

this year I've got a bud but it's to low .

It's a bit hard to see ,it's on the line of the new and old growth .

I'm after something in the Goldilocks zone .

I've cut back hard to try stimulate a bud where I want it .

I need to root work this year so when I get my bud ( eternal optimist and I touched wood ) I'll work on them towards the end of November .

No, you didn't over-pot it! Great base, good potential. I'd hack it in the middle of the boring bit, but I can be a bit heavy-handed...

Have you had any success with the coccifera seeds I sent. Mine are just starting to pop.

Hi Jarryd . Still waiting on both to pop up I was a bit caught up in winter and didn't sow them till late .still early days, light frost most mornings still here .
