They are definitely not trees so lifespan is probably a fair bit shorter than many of the species we usually work with but we still grow acacias as bonsai even though some are quite short lived.
Short lifespan usually accompanied by rapid development so maybe if you can make one quick it doesn't matter if it shuffles off a bit earlier than some others?
My recently albino banksia. I'm pretty sure it is one of the Tasmanian maginatas that have done much better than my local ones in pots. Around 10-15 years from seed but these seem to do most of the work themselves. Just an occasional clip here and there to stop them getting out of hand. The trunk shape is how these grow.
Hard to attribute whether this was too much water or too little water or maybe just bad luck? I still have a few more to keep playing with
