Whatever the close date - and regardless of the Comp - I am enjoying caring for these. I’ll drop an end of October photo in but these trunks look ok, I reckon. Now the leaves on the other hand ….

Re: [NATURAL] Eucalyptus camaldulensis - River Red Gums - MJL(1)
Here is my entry for the old deadline. My trimming a few weeks back to get small leaves nearly worked (and nearly failed!) - I had to leave it right to the last minute to get enough foliage…. And even then, I am not sure. Trying to work with these trees has been great fun and I am glad I entered this comp.
The tallest tree stand about 56 cm and it is in a custom Murrumbung pot that I commission before the competition and decided an Australian pot is appropriate.

Thanks for the many updates Mark, great visual diary.
The gums are really settling into the Aussie pot.

This is looking good Mark. The variation of trunk thicknesses and the strong movement all look very natural. I'm keen to see how this progresses with more time and ramification.

That looks nice mate. Its hard to maintain Eucs as bonsai, as those leaves will get a lot bigger soon.
But I like it mate.

Another haircut … noting here that I have taken a lot of growth but not all the big leaves. Really just stimulating more growth before I do a major cut and reduction 4-6 weeks before the new final date.

Re: [NATURAL] Eucalyptus camaldulensis - River Red Gums - MJL(1)
I decided to craft a new top on the main tree today. For main branches,I prefer ripping/tearing to clean cuts. Here’s what I took off and I’ve also included a picture of an old rip - I think it looks very natural. The new top has better taper and structure too. Wiring has been minimal on these trees but the new top needed some wire.

Well … here’s a final big trim before the completion close in April. Time for one more flush of growth … I hope … and found a little guest munching away too!!

Re: [NATURAL] Eucalyptus camaldulensis - River Red Gums - MJL(1)
The final entry for these gums. These photos were a few days back and I had to trim some leaves (or the (perhaps cheating) to get the proportions ok. Again, a really satisfying group and thanks for the competition.
