Progression thread : Port Jackson fig 1

This Port Jackson fig was given to my son at the Central Coast Bonsai Show as a starter from Ray Nescis childrens material.
Eventually my son wanted me to develop it, so the initial photo was in its little bonsai pot.
I am trying to develop it as a shohin Port Jackson fig. I can't find the earlier photos of its development

This is probably the easiest species for beginners.
I find Port Jacksons are better for making small bonsai than Moreton bay figs, mainly because the leaves reduce much easier than with Moretons.
From my experience, Port Jackson also are better at tolerating shade, and branches that are heavily shaded don't die off like with Moretons.

C’mon, they grow like weeds.

And they naturally want to grow big (and quick).

I reckon even if I tried to kill mine, they would somehow survive. Makes them great to play around with though.

It was taken out of that tiny pot the week it got home and put into a grow pot.

This is still being grown in trust for my son. Hopefully he picks up the hobby when he's older.
I am now attempting to keep it as a shohin Port Jackson Fig.
I am still cutting back hard each year to create the bones of the tree.
In about 5 years I'll probably work more on refinement, as I'm still trying to encourage some more roots on the back.

This one was repotted in September and is powering on now. It has had a massive root removal, in preparation for a shohin.

I realize its not quite yet 01.01.2023, but its easier to post that its 2023, so looking back people can easily distinguish that its a year apart. Its only 1 day before the actual date.

Placed into a Bonsai pot that is perfect for its size. Unfortunately I'm not fond of the colour, so it will stay in this until I find a more suited colour/texture for it. Its a tokoname by shibikatsu in case anyone is wondering.

.... having fun with this fig as a shohin. Just gave it a big haircut to start some more ramification.
I'd given all my large figs a haircut 3 weeks ago, and they've all exploded with new growth now that days are getting hotter.
