trident maple seed propergation

Post by Matthew »

Hey guys,

I recently collected about 100o seeds from a mature trident maple. Im just wondering if they need any special treatment? been NE victoria i think they wont need stratification in the fridge and should be able to be planted out. Just wondering when is a good time to plant out?

cheers

As per instructions for the seeds I bought from ebay, stratification for 60 days and plant in early spring. I collected about 100 seeds from my 9 yrs old Taiwanese maple bonsai tree and planted the seeds straight away 3 weeks ago. I got 2 geminations. The rest is still dormant. I guess stratification is the way to go.
Always we hope someone else has the answer.

I'd be waiting until August. Put them in a shallow propagation tray, sprinkle a thin layer of prop mix over them and they should be good.

If you've got any spare seeds maybe we could do an exchange. PM me if you like.
Do i have a plethora of pinatas?

Last time i did them was to stratify for 4weeks in damp peat moss.

When is the best time to collect them? Do they seed every year?

I agree, I sowed about 500, half in winter and half in spring two years ago, the winter ones are about 3 months ahead...who would've thought!
