trident maple seed propergation
Hey guys,
I recently collected about 100o seeds from a mature trident maple. Im just wondering if they need any special treatment? been NE victoria i think they wont need stratification in the fridge and should be able to be planted out. Just wondering when is a good time to plant out?
cheers

I'm hoping now, or my trays are doomed!

Re: trident maple seed propergation
As per instructions for the seeds I bought from ebay, stratification for 60 days and plant in early spring. I collected about 100 seeds from my 9 yrs old Taiwanese maple bonsai tree and planted the seeds straight away 3 weeks ago. I got 2 geminations. The rest is still dormant. I guess stratification is the way to go.noah78 wrote:Hey guys,

Re: trident maple seed propergation
I'd be waiting until August. Put them in a shallow propagation tray, sprinkle a thin layer of prop mix over them and they should be good.
If you've got any spare seeds maybe we could do an exchange. PM me if you like.

When is the best time to collect them? Do they seed every year?

I collect them when they start to fall and sow the same day. Tridents set lots of seed every year

I agree, I sowed about 500, half in winter and half in spring two years ago, the winter ones are about 3 months ahead...who would've thought!Mitchell wrote:Same.craigw60 wrote:I collect them when they start to fall and sow the same day.
