So.......Are Pines a weed in Australia??
There is a beautiful little Radiata about
50 - 60 cm high growing under a barrier on
the side of the road next to the SA WATER reservoir.
It is on counsil land but I really want it........She would make
a beautiful upright and the way its growing i
know it wasnt put there for landscaping!!!
She's surrounded by mature Pines and wild Olive's

Hi Jase, South australia may have a different list but I doubt it. Here in Victoria pinus radiata is on the weed list, in my area you don't even need a permit to remove mature trees.

I cannot see any listing that says radiata on a weed list
Was lookig for NSW list and cannot find it on a list for us either.

I just did a quick search but heres on to have a look at. It appears the blue mountains is one area of the country seriously threatened by this species.

There was a case in Melbourne a few years ago when a well known bonsai person dug up some trees on railway property.

Another mean well known bonsai person dobbed him/her in and they were charged.

Not a good look.

I collected trees on railway embackments near Bathurst many years ago and along the old meandering highways where they are by passed. That is still a good source and partially hidden from view.

There are ancient and legendary stories of an Eminent Sydney Dentist and his mate "liberating" figs with a crowbar from the walls surrounding St Marys Cathedral in Sydney, somewhere round midnight. Alcohol may have been involved. And I dug a massive rose stump from a developers paradise by the side of a highway 30 years ago without much of a second thought. Times have changed. Now you need written permission to blow your nose (and the handkerchief must have the Correct Proportions!). A number of noxious weeds wear ties.

Those stories are correct. The main liberated tree still exists and is known as the "ecumenical fig". This was around 35 to 40 years ago.

Here's a link to a list of weeds in Nillumbik Shire, where I live. There are a handful of good Bonsai species on the list, but trying to navigate through the main site is a nightmare, so what I can legally DO about/with the listed weeds remains a mystery. This time of year, the roadsides and nearby paddocks are dotted with various flowering Prunus specimens that I'd love to dig...

I spend an hour at luunch today looking and and particularly at the weeds one and could not find anything that says particularly they are declared weeds

rason for asking is this sat I will going for a drive north of Sydney where there is many growing on the sides of the roads ( in our native bush) and woudl like to have a close look as I have time and we have good digging weather her ATM.
If I find some good candidates I might just have to stop and do some weeding

Hi Ken, I did the same and most of the weed lists tended to list grasses, perennials and lower growing shrubs but not tree weeds I don't know why that is. There seems to be a fair bit of info on radiata seeding out of plantions though and in the Sydney area they talk about the blue mountains quite a bit. I reckon its open slather on this species.
