Re: Ficus Defoliation
Hi Aussie,
No, you can still defoliate figs at this time. A number of people will do another defoliate after Christmas.
Have a look at my post. viewtopic.php?f=103&t=6988

Pup, please clarify this for me. Are you defoliating a second fig, or a second defoliation for the season? Forgive me for being blondePup wrote:I will be doing my second one this Saturday. So Yes you can do it now seeing as you are about to get some warm weather coming your way.

A: Because we are not all there.

Re: Ficus Defoliation
I just repotted and wire my figs and changed their position from full afternoon sun into full morning sun then filtered mid day sun, could i defoliate them now, or let them settle in and do it in february?

Hey rch003
Defoliation and repotting is fine done together if tree was good and healthy to start. If you just repotted in the last couple of days you could go for it. Don't forget to take the new shoots also.. As soon as they shoot I'd probably put em back into normal position as more sun will get more shoots and keep the leaves a little smaller. Pruning the tips when there is only 2 or 3 leaves will keep em small and avoid the need for another defoliation.
Happy figin

Re: Ficus Defoliation
Cheers mate, I am an expert at giving plants a heart attack, changing position, pruning, root cutting, wiring etc all in one day and wondering why they turn into driftwood, I will let them settle in and remove some of the larger leaves
