White bud on fig...?!
Hi all,
I've noticed a couple of buds growing on the branch of my PJ fig in the last few days. They're not green like regular leaf buds, but clear-ish white.
There's about three growing on one branch, and two on the other. I don't feel concerned about their being a problem... but maybe they are? I thought they might winter buds or something maybe?
Anyone else know what they could be?? I'm more curious than anything else!

Sounds like a good call Craig.
If they are on the tips I'm intrigued, but along the branch is normal. They would be a different shape to the leaf bud and you will know in a couple of days. If they are leaf buds I would love to see a photo.

Scrape one with your fingernail? Does it come off? Does it bleed whitish sap?
My guess, insect like a scale?

Some euphorbias have clearish buds. Without pictures no one can be sure.

Hi all
Thanks for taking an interest in this topic. I tried to take some photos on my phone this morning but the sun was too harsh and made the photos too dark. And I wad running too late for work to set up the camera.
I'll post some pics this evening when I get home
but the idea of aerial roots is interesting! They haven't grown much since yesterday. But you'll see them this arvo

Ok, just snapped a photo with my camera phone
A little fuzzy, but you get the idea. It's whitish, growing and I have no idea what it is!

Yes they are aerial roots - it will be white with a brown tip. Because of all the humidity we are having here in Brissy. If you don't like them cut them off - no difference.

Hi Emoska
Airial roots would be the call. To grow or not to grow is the question. Your call. They do em naturally so to leave is good, but you can get too many. Main thing is off the trunk they are good and help fatten the tree, but if they grow from the branches and reach the soil they will fatten the branch from the root out to the tip, so not so good. Will take a while, but let em grow for a bit if they are new to you.

Thanks for the input everyone
To coincide with the style I'm going with, I've pinched the branch shoots off - but welcome any trunk shoots that'll help fatten this one up.
