Everyone thinks moss and removes it quickly. I did once, but a friend of mine, Ron Povey scalded me for doing it.
Thinking back to when I lived in tas, you can see lichen on nearly every forest tree over 30 odd years.
Young and hostile but not stupid.

A tree after my own heart. I like em big to. You might need to have a couple of more children, preferably boys, to help out when it comes around to repotting time.

Remove bits if they over bear the trunk and hide the bark too much, but always keep some.

We have some amazing lichen growing on the back fence of our current rental. My wife snapped a few photos of it the other day:

Hi cre8ivbonsai , mate it went wheels up quite a while ago .I had a large amount of curl grubs in the soil and garden beds and by the time i found them the damage was done .I have hung onto the trunk as a garden ornament . It would be nice to have another one .Maybe the next big storm might just produce a specimen worthy of the work it takes , until then i will have to be happy with little 100mm trunks .Cheers Alpine
