collected figs
hey everyone last night i collected these to figs out of an abandoned house's gutter my plans at the moment are to just pot them up into a syrofoam box each and see how they go just thought id put them up for everyone to have a look and prehaps give some advice on where i should be headed in my opinion they have great potential. sorry for the poor picture quality they were taken off my phone in the dark.

Hi there,
The second one will make a very nice group planting, it looks almost right as a group planting as is. Feed them some light liquid Seasol too, the leaves look a bit yellow, but I think they will be okay. These figs are very strong and resilient.

Plant 2 will make a lovely group. I think you could make it work as a very slender, feminine style forest as it is. With a bit of work here and there it will be a natural setting.

thanks guys! the second one is about 4 foot high from the bottom of the trunk to the tops you don't think that would be to tall? the group forest planting was my thoughts also fo that one, reguaring the roots how much do you think i should chop off?

Hey Greenhorn
Cut the roots back on both to a little shorter than photo 5 and prune the foliage back to a little shorter than the last photo. Pot them in a styro for sure to fatten the trunks up, back make sure you control the growth of the smaller trunks and let the main trunks grow to get thicker and give the arrangements more power. Variation of trunk thickness will improve the settings.

thanks for your advice guys. in reguards to chopping back on the last photo tony do you think i should take it to the equivilent to the top line of the tiles and eventually take it to the second line?
so i've had alot of help with the second plant how about the first one? should i just plant it and let it grow and fatten up or could i do some sort of trunk bending on it?

Hi Greenhorn if you have the room just cut back the roots a bit and plant the first one in a grow box. I never ever say no to free plants and you can can grow it on and see what happens with it. Not like it cost you anything
I collected a benji from a stormwater grate last week for work - and I got paid to do it
I find figs all the time here in brissy and have lots in pots and boxes - much to my GF's dismay 
You would have to have really brown thumbs to kill them.

yeah i see figs everywhere bougy theres one down the road in a drain that i've go my eye on and a couple in a drain at work plus another on someones brick letterbox of all places haha

My advice, although talking about the specific photos, was for both trees. I was just giving an idea of length relative to both trees.
Weeping Fig don't tend to shoot back as well as other Figs. So I would leave them a little longer to just a bit over the top line of tiles for the first cut for now. Let them shoot back for a while and then prune again. Cutting back too hard first can mean you end up with only a few branches to work with.

You could tie a clump together so they fuse and grow as one tree. That way you'd get a thicker-trunked tree sooner. You have plenty to play with.
