What I love about this time of year is seeing trees without their leaves. I am still learning but enjoy the challenge of identifying a tree by looking at branch structure, buds and bark.
Both bonsai and in nature.
I have started with a faily common one, can you tell me what it is?

a small clue, the tree stands about 700mm and a graft is visible at 200mm.

I have had this tree for only 6 months, purchased from a deceased estate it was a bit neglected. It has had sone hard pruning and a repot.
The reason it caught my eye was the graft, I like the common variety but the grafted ones often produce some nice eye catching results.
