[ANBA] Ficus Eugenoides
Height 1150mm; Width 1030mm; Trunk 380mm; Pot 800mm
18 Years in Training ( Not all good training )
This tree was collected as 4m high tree in a washout and was cut to 800mm and regrown. The interest down low was what attracted me to it, but the upper section was a fence post. I decided to match the fused roots down low to carving and hollowing in the upper section to make it look like a Strangler Fig. A Die-grinder with router bits attached was used for most of the work.
The carving has rolled over nicely over the years, and has taken on the look nicely I think. The trunk is mostly hollow to show a fully mature Strangler Fig, but I have left the heart wood of the tree in the big hole down the bottom to look like the last remaining piece of 'Host Tree'. The training has been eratic over the years, but I have got back into it the last 18 months and wanted to show it off. I took a few photos as the sun went down and chose this one as it shows light through the tree onto the trunk like a tall canopy tree, and lets some through to light up the airial roots at the front of the trunk. Hope you like it.
Thanks
Tony

Hi Tony,
I think I remember you telling me about this one - it looks great, a very convincing strangler-fig and makes a great centrepiece to your garden.
cheers

Terrific fig Tony
And the carving in the top section really does enhance the lovely fused roots down low and make it seem like a strangler...very realistic and convincing/natural work!
Cheers, Dario.

Thanks for all the comments guys.
It is the one I told you about Ash. Not quite in its final position, but pretty close. Still got to do that part of the garden.

A very, very nice fig Tony. The second pic is a crack up, one of the kids looks like he is having a great time and the other one looks like he wishes he was somewhere else
Maybe hanging out with his girl. Again, great fig.
