Mt Alpineart

This is a plan that simply grew a year or so ago from a discarded olive base .I flat cut a 300mm olive and threw the base into the compost .It struck quite a few shoots in various places even though it was upside down . I always contemplated growing a forest in the same fashion if i ever came across a big base .

Well yesterday the base arrived and rather than waste it carving it up i have simply trimmed it

of the excess roots . This actually has 2 dams

or natural lakes and possible a very nice natural waterfall could be incorporated into the living forest , with the help of a mini solar powered pump .Well its off into the scoria beds

and we will see how it grows

Its a plan hopefully it will come to life over the next 12 months and then a tray will be custom made to house this unique piece .

This is crazy mate, but im keen to see if itll root for you again if so ill be doing the same thing with a olive of mine that needs flat bottoming, hopefully youll get a nice clump from that

Hi VS , mate its got roots , just need some shoots .They sprout from underground so there is no reason it won't work . I might need to cover it a bit more but this is buried 50-80mm deep with quite a few roots in the scoria .The sucker shoots come from all area's around the bases from above and below ground level .

I did not see this coming I hope it roots.

I remember Ken mentioned about putting his olive trunk in a bath of Seasol. I am not sure if Seasol is of help in this case?

Hi Webos , mate i like it when i here optimistic replies to new challenges . No good being pessimistic that's for sure .It will root and shoot hopefully in the desired places to create a very nice rugged mountain scape .

Hi kc , nothing wrong with being a creative nutter .I have a certificate to say i not that mad , at least i think that what it says . When there's no rules , there's no boundaries , that leaves me with no limits , only possibilities and options .

Hi Daiviet , It has quite a few roots now , so the shoots won't be far behind .Olive can sulk for quite some time after collection , and yes i have killed quite a few torturing them .I have a ring barked trunk that is still alive after 4-5 years , it's healing the ring bark very slowly . It was a very poor specimen so i thought i would go all out to see if i could kill the top off .. Still growing , not worthy of a bonsai but still alive . Last year i managed to drown 3 small trunks leaving them in a bucket water for 3 months , changing the water to keep it reasonably healthy not stagnant but they all died . I can kill anything trying .

It'll grow Alpine. Seen it done in Perth and they shoot pretty easy. Only from the tubor though, not from the thick roots.

Hi Tony , I'm hoping for several shoots off each bulbus piece that will give several perimeter forests and what will be the mountain range in the middle with the lake and possible waterfall . If required a small olive or 2 could be planted in any of the nooks and crannies and a few mame sized conifers as well . Anythings worth a try in Bonsai .

Hi Sqizzy , mate the compliment has floored me . I'm inspired by many , most of all mother nature . I see a mountain and convert it to Bonsai , I see a landscape and create a Penjing , I see no limits to mother nature and no limits to the possibility of bonsai without the rules . There is no such thing as can't , plenty of wont's and shouldn't s , but mother nature doesn't discriminate when she create with no rules .

Man is this going to be a unique piece to ponder over the next few years , all i need is a 900mm tray to put it on . Now that gives me another idea , it has to have wheels on it to move the mountain , where's Mohammod .
