[ID] Not sure if they are good for bonsai.

Hi guys

My mate wants me to pull these shrubs out from his front yard, not sure what they are
The foliage has a glazed, shiny look to it.

Bit hard to see the photos - not very clear. I am guessing Cuphea ?

I think it is probably a Hebe. There's about 90 species and more cultivars.
Very hardy, drought tolerant but not sure whether they produce woody stems. Anything is worth having a go at if collected plant is available free but I wouldn't go out of my way to start one from scratch.

:imo: I think that the paired leaves at right angles would make this hard to deal with the structure of the branches and with the design of the foliage. I don't think it would be a natural looking landscape tree, but there are other styles.

I can't help but think of multiple green spiral staircases in a pot.

If its there to work with challenge yourself to learn from it. :2c:
Patience is often a surprise.

Hi Ben,
I have dug out some impressive Hebe trunks in my time, don't discount them completely as you will no doubt make many a Kiwi very upset
