Collected Chinese Elms and Water gums

Post by kcpoole »

A few weeks ago, I visited the local "Big Store" we usually do not name, near me, and found out it was closing (moving to a new venue).
Like most of these stores, there are lots of gardens around, and in them I noticed lots of self sown Chinese elms that havd been cut back many times over the years and others that were much newer versions.
I could not get to talk to the manager, but driving past the other day noticed it was all shut up and the driveway locked up, but there is still walk way access to the gardens.

I visited yesterday (before the bulldozers arrive presumably), and Cleaned out the garden of a few of the weeds :D

Also found 2 smallish water gums 1/2 hanging out of the hillside, so rescued them too :lost: Dunno if that was OK or not, but they will be graded into dust soon no doubt, so I call it a rescue mission.
How many times have we seen trees when its too late?

Do not know how they will all go, but expect the elms to do well, and the gums so long as they are kept damp I reckon should be OK.

Mate nice pick up there. Some really nice movement in some of those trunks too. Don't talk to me about missed opportunities. Our local shopping centre had a car park full of callistemon and other natives. Most had been driven over or stood on. Natural shari etc. I went away for a week and came back to find the whole lot gone :palm:
I have found another garden with a big self sown elm in it I'm trying to get permission to remove but no one wants be responsible for saying yes :palm:
As you say they will just be bulldozed to make way for something else so :tu: all the way.
