non kink hose (nylex vs POPE vs Toro)

Post by cutejai »

g'day all,

i'm currently looking for a quality non kink hose. and have spent some times at bun*ing comparing all the different one, but they all look very similar, so I can't decide and need some real world feedback to help me choose.

I've now narrowly down to 3:
1. nylex never kink pro: i've heard good report from this but the real product doesn't impress me that much, because the hose is very stiff and once bended you can actually see the kink mark on it. i'm not sure if water pressure will make any different though.
2. pope superflex: this one is actually pretty good, it actually has the most silicon feel and not as soft as the Toro one, and even if you bend it, it will bounce back with no mark or whatsoever, but i've read bad review about the end connector leaking. but i have no problem paying more for extra end connector if the quality of the hose is good.
3. toro velocity: this one is also pretty good, it also have silicon feel but alot softer than pope(may be less silicon), so i'm not too sure if this softness would make it easier to kink than POPE(again water pressure might make a different?), but it's the most expensive out of the 3 and has kink resistance rating of 10 out of 10 instead of 9 compare to the above 2.

since this is quite alot of momey to spend so I don't want to blindly choose and regret it. so i'm now after some feedback from experience members. do you have any of the above and so do you recommend it?

below is direct link to the product.

A lot of the 'non cink' products they profess to state, are woefully overstated. You will need to spend a lot of $$$$ if this is what you want. There is a simple way, take the hose and unravel it somewhat in the store, and if it cinks easily by you literally bending it to force the cink or to some degree naturally, then it is self explanatory. This was what an old mitre 10 attendant advised me once, and it is pretty accurate.

I've spent enough on hoses over the years to pay off the national debts of several small central European countries and the only hoses I've ever had real problems with were the non-kink variety. They are either ridiculously stiff or they don't do what they claim. Turns out it was all my fault. Being the schedule obsessed idiot that I am I always water my gardens the same way, clockwise or anti-clockwise depending on the garden, and that inevitably results in loops in the hose that lead to kinks. Yeah, Rocket Science 101.

These days I just buy el-cheapo hoses and put good fittings on them and make sure that for any day of the week with a "y" in it, I reverse my watering circuit. Easy peasy :tu:

I've been using one of those. It will kink but a slight tug pulls it straight rather than tightening the kink more. Id buy it again if I had the choice. A lot softer in feel than the other never kink hoses.

I've been using these for the last few years and really like them - particularly the crimped brass fittings. They rarely kink, and if they do, they will pull straight quite easily.
