I've had this lying around for a few years and no one seemed interested in it so I thought ''stuff it'' I'll work on it myself.
Anyway, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out and now I'm keeping it.
I don't have ''before'' shots but this is it's first thorough working over. It was a chop down job originally.
The base is about 10cm or so in diameter.

Makes my maples look like a seed. I also like the look of the red leaf maple to the right of it too.
Rory I style Bonsai naturally, just as they would appear in the wild.

Treeman, Treeman,Treeman, it's always shortcuts with you. You need to learn to CUT! I suggest you cut the straight middle part of the trunk out, it has no taper and poor branch options - it will never come to anything. The tip (first 5mm?) you can use as a cutting. The bottom 10mm of base plant out in a field and with dedication it might be worth revisiting in 20 years time.

Sorry disagree.. Air layering this would be a better option IMO..or to graft branches where they are not if you don't want to air layer.. This way you will get 2 squat trees out of it!

Ouchhhh drastic poor tree ... why does everyone say cut haha .
I think its cool ... maybe if you wanted a tree like the part recommend to keep ... wouldnt you just go and buy a seed and wait 6weeks for it grow instead of chopping such a thing down to nothing . At the end of the day its big and different, maybe not a show winner but it has character and Im sure IMAO many other plp will think the same , and others will not . But bonsai is art not perfection see how its goes buddy !!
My bad im sorry .... sometimes sarcasm is hard to pick up on . Thanks for clearing that up ... after I posted I thought ohh no what if he was joking and I just sounded like a dick . Which clearly I have done just that and I apologize
