2016 Canberra Bonsai Society Annual Show 8 & 9 October
Hi all
The week after the Goulburn show, you can come back for a second helping at the CBS Annual Show on 8 & 9 October.
We'll be back at Canberra Grammar School again, which was very popular with visitors last year.
Full details are at http://www.cbs.org.au/exhibition/ .
If you drop in around between 10 and 11 on Sunday morning, as a bonus, you can watch one of the local Tai Chi groups practising in the main quadrangle.
We're looking forward to seeing lots of people over the weekend.
Cheers
Jennifer

I think I will pop along for a look, there is usually some outstanding bonsai displayed.
I'm not sure about the new location, my wife thinks its too far away from the shops!!!

Just drop her off at Manuka, and tell her you'll be back in an hour or three. Plenty to see/buy/eat/drink there. Excellent bookshop. Timmy's for lunch.

Or if you could let her loose in the Bus Depot Markets, if you're going to be in town on Sunday morning! Lots of spending opportunities there, and some great lunch spots along the Kingston Foreshore area!
And you don't need to feel left out.... we'll have lots of opportunities for you to spend as well (AFTER you've been through the display or course!
)
We have an expanded group of vendors this year... Shibui and Bonsai World are returning with plants maybe some pots and other items. Grant will be back with pots, tools wire and 'a few very mature bonsai'. Graham will also be back with his pots (and I gather from posts on here, maybe a couple of collected stumps). They'll be joined this year by Michael from CBS who is selling some advanced plants, books and stands. And we are hoping that Marg Fenn will be up with some of her pots.
And of course there'll also be the CBS sales table to tempt you.
I see you have a couple of bonsai in for the display Watto... I'm looking forward to seeing them and you over the weekend... Hope the weather clears up for your show and ours!
Cheers

I could be tempted at the sales area. I had my eye on one of Grant's Japanese pot a little while ago so I might loosen the purse strings?

The warm weather is coming just in time... Forecast of low 20s for next weekend!
We have over 80 trees registered for display, and a new layout that should show them off at their best.
Only 5 days to go!
Hope to see you there

You have made my day Graham - I love presents.
Looking forward to the show but a couple of the "handy hints" are not that helpful as they all revolve around my darling spending money. I might see if I can sneak out and then spend all the money at the show?????

Just a quick heads up, Marg Fenn is making the trip up from Melbourne to this event with a few boxes of pots to sell in the sales area - she's looking forward to it so be sure to say hello!

We're really looking forward to having Marg...only 3 days to go and it is getting BUSY...
We have around 80 displays in total, including 4 shohin groups, 2 of Frank's suiseki displays and a group of trees grown from stock supplied to the National Arboretum. There'll be some less common maples (coral and Amur) as well as the usual suspects - tridents and Japanese.
Bring on the weekend!

Only a few hours to go till set-up and the trees and sales items start arriving.
The biggest tree coming in is over a metre tall and wide, and one the smallest is only 13cm! There'll be flowering bonsai, weed species, conifers, maples, elms, and a sprinkling of other exotics, as well as a few Aussie species. Something for everyone.
Hope to see you there.

Seriously though, I'm looking forward to it.

No Rory, sadly the Aussie species are being shy this year, only about 10% of the total entries... But they will I am sure be magnificent to make for that!
But of course (getting in early) they will all be out at the Australian Plants as Bonsai exhibition on the last week in February next year. The 2017 symposium is bring hosted by VNBC, so CBS will have an easy weekend!

Getting ready for the show:
Fig, bit of a beast, not a good angle looking down at it. Around 55cm tall. Sluggish, it must be said, in Canberra.
Acer ginnala. For my money, NEVER defoliate. I've killed a good one doing it.
Small Chinese elm, 15cm.
Some possible accents.
Another. Too much?
See you there. And cakes to Jennifer, who keeps us organised!
