My best guess is Lophomyrus (Black Stallion)
Can anyone give a second opinion.

It is a native hop bush Dodonaea sp. (no relation to real hops). It is not long lived as a tree/bush but might live longer as abonsai. There are millions of them around here.
Fairly easy to transplant when young.

Gday folks!

I also believe it is Dodonea viscosa (Wedge Leaf Hopbush), and the specimens I have around my garden show massive variation in form (leaf size, internodal spacing, flower colour, apical dominance or otherwise). I have made a half-hearted attempt to create Bonsai from young specimens, but many factors (external and other) prevented me seeing them through. In the ground (in the right place :| ) they grow like crazy.

I have plans to air-layer one (if the Missus allows it... :D ).

Thanks and good luck!

Fly.
