Yes, what volcano is this? I found all of these pines growing on the side and rim of a Volcano.

I don't suppose it's Airly Volcano? (Bit of a wild guess, I know)

Isn't that where they tested the H bombs?
No wonder your having trouble identifying the pines
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

If you were in Victoria I would guess Mt Schank but I don't know any of the ones there.
PS. If it were Mt Schank the pines woud be either P radiata or P pinea (unlikely because of growth pattern). Both these pines are used for the extensive forestry industry here.

Mt Schank is correct but when we visited it was still in SA. Pines 1 and 2 were on Mt Schank and pine 3 was at nearby Mount Gambier. Mt Schank was GREAT and well worth a visit and climb. We walked all around the rim in no tim at all; its not all that big but it is the most recent vocano in Australia at about 5,000 years old.

I am familiar with radiata and halipensis to identify them but pine 2 was unknown to me.

Anyhow the point of the exercise was to say there are pines out there for the digging all around Australia(although not in Nat Parks of course). I saw some wicked pines in SA and Vic over the last few months.

Pity we don't have them growing in Alpine areas hey.
