Mount Spurgeon black kauri pine - Prumnopitys ladei 1
This material is excellent for bonsai. The only problem is they are fairly slow growing. But they are very hardy.
They have tolerated dry conditions, wet conditions, poor drainage, fast drainage and heavy root removals.
I purchased about 10 of these seedlings from an online nursery, and started growing them back in 2019.
This particular specimen was purchased from Bonsai World at Jilliby on the Central Coast for only $8
I have never lost any of the seedlings I grew, and they are very tolerant of heavy shade, and also are fine in full sun.
They are much better material to work with than Swampies (for those of you wanting to transition to natives).
The foliage is adorable and they shoot from down low frequently.

I only have one left, as I’ve sold or given away most of my collection. (Downsizing)
This was one I sold too.
They are very hardy, but just don’t have them always sitting in a wet mix too long as they prefer good drainage and not to be continually sitting in a wet or slow draining mix.
In spring they look so beautiful with the new lime foliage contrast against the very dark older foliage.
