JBP Progression

Here's another Japanese Black Pine that I've been working on for about 3 years and I thought I'd post a progression series.

I didn't take a pic of how the tree was originally purchased but this first image shows the tree originally in August 2008 after branches were cleaned out and a basic structure was selected. It didn't really look like much at this stage but I really like the trunk shape and structure.

After this time the tree was fed and then potted in September 2008.

The tree in March 2009. The very bottom brach was removed and the plan was to jin it.

In July 2009 the wiring was removed and the needles cut to allow as much light as possible to the buds.

In Spring 2010 the tree was repotted and a heavy feeding regime was again used.

I generally do the summer candle cutting in early to mid December each year. Here are some images of before and after in Summer 2010.

I also removed the wiring to give the tree a break for a while. The next job is the removal of old needles and selection of the buds to grow on for the next season.

Here is the tree before this work was done.

So now the work is done for the time being. Some wiring was done and I'll need to do more but I'll wait until the needles harden off a little more so as no to damage them.

There are plenty of new buds and the tree has responded really well to the new soil mix and feeding structure.

Anyway, I love seeing the progressions so I thought I'd put this one up too.

good job. once the jbp reach to a stage that is like "wow" you might have to start to think of a nicer pot.

Thanks for the kind words.

I agree about the photos Tony, trouble is I'm normally in too much of a rush to get started on the initial styling that most of my first photos are part way through the first lot of work!

Dumper I think this tree is still a long way off the 'wow' stage but I take your point about the nicer pot. Cheers.

I love slanting trees and you are doing a good job on this one.



For now I see that you're tree is neatly trimmed but I do believe you could use some sacrifice branches to speed up the progress of the tree to a tree.
