Bonsai Week at the National Arboretum Canberra

This event was held from 25 to 31 March 2019 and this year featured two international guest bonsai artists, Heike van Gunst and Sanrda Grlica from Germany.

I was lucky enough to attend a few activities during the week. The bonsai discussion forum and critique with the international artists kicked off my activities and this was well attended and gave the audience a great insight into the artists.

This was followed up with “Bonsai After Hours – Women in Bonsai” which included a demonstration by both artists. There are a couple of photos from the demonstrations but the lighting wasn’t conducive to photography so you must excuse these. Also during the night there were a few auctions where you could pick up a bargain or two, an opportunity to view the National Bonsai & Penjing Collection under lights as well as enjoy a few canapes and drinks while being entertained.

I also had the opportunity to partake in a workshop with both artists but those details will be for another post soon. For now a few photos from the demonstrations.

The tree for Heike van Gunst, in my opinion a very difficult tree of poor quality not in keeping with the type of material that should be presented to international artists.
