This is a JBP that i purchased in December 09 and set a layer on the trunk just to see if it would take in 3 months as certain literiture has stated .I used the typical ring bark method commonly used on deciduous trees . Yes it worked and not only did it work i was so impressed with the result i set some Autumn layers as well .I’m informed these could take 6 months due to the dormant period over winter . A draw back to look out for is they tend to grow over the ring bark so i will watch the tree closely .
